These first five activities include;

  • Exploring vocabulary relating to the word ‘worry’ using a word map, including exploring definitions, synonyms and antonyms and putting the word into context.
  • Retrieval of information from the front cover to help predict what is going to happen in the story and look at key features such as the author and illustrator.
  • PSHE/PSED work to support emotions of ‘worry’
  • Characterisation and linking to other familiar stories or characters/activating prior knowledge and discussion of fiction and non fiction

All resources on powerpoint and can be used in lessons on the whiteboard or can be printed as a scaffold/support for children to work on or stick in books. There is also a range of notes attached to each slide which will help you tailor these lessons for your children and provide scaffold or challenge.
