Your students will love these fun addition 3-digit regrouping games. The activities are ideal AUTUMN addition Maths games for grade 3 for students to add 2-digit and 3-digit numbers to practice regrouping numbers or adding them using mental Maths strategies in fun ways. These Roll and Add fun autumn maths games will engage your students so they use these key Maths skills to calculate the answers and ‘win’ the most acorns.

The games are ideal for:
  • consolidating addition as an extra activity for those who need more practice with adding 2 and 3- digits
  • lessons when you are teaching about adding 3-digit numbers
  • independent activities - these fun games are great to play in pairs
  • adult-led activities
  • Maths centres/ maths centres - have them organized in folders marked addition for those times you need some quick and ready resources, Supply days or free choice times
  • fun homework

Students will be eager to play and work out the answers using these resources and see who can solve the most addition problems, circle the most acorns with their colours and claim these as theirs. Challenging the partner on whether they are adding up correctly will keep them engaged and wanting to play these games more than once. It is up to you if they check their answers using a calculator or rely on their accuracy to add correctly.

To make this easier for those students who need manipulatives, provide Maths resources e.g. Dienes etc. for working out and checking answers. This gives a great connection between concrete Maths i.e. handling objects and the more abstract Maths of using numerals and written sums.
These are great games for adding up in our heads too - so ideal to practice mental maths.

Differentiation is easy - use the easier addition game 1 for students who need simpler additions to solve 2- and 3-digit numbers and support this with manipulatives or challenge them to add two 3-digit numbers in Games 3 and 4. Alternatively, let students start with Game 1, then play Game 2, 3 and 4 as they get increasingly more difficult.

Here is what you will get:
  • Game 1 - adding teen numbers to 2- and 3-digit numbers
  • Game 2 - adding 2-digit numbers (higher than teen numbers) to 2- and 3-digit numbers
  • Game 3 - adding two different 3-digit numbers
  • Game 4 - adding two 3-digit numbers which may give similar answers
  • Instructions for each game
  • 5 dice
  • 5 spinners
  • Coloured counters to use instead of colouring in.

Students love learning in fun ways and these games will help to practice their Maths skills so that addition becomes easier and quicker. They will make connections through a shared fun learning experience and increase their mathematical skills in the process – a win-win situation.
