Make reading and science fun by using this easy-prep Vocabulary Trail and Memory game cards with a sea life & ocean theme. Your Key Stage 2 students will work individually, in small groups and use their comprehension skills to match meanings and words, unscramble the mystery words and crack the code.
There are 2 different resources - 10 words & meanings for a whole class vocabulary trail and 20 words & meanings as small cards to play popular games in small groups such as Memory, Pairs or Snap.
These engaging activities are perfect for using comprehension skills to match the words and definitions and be the first to unlock the secret 4-digit code or be the one with the most cards at the end of a memory game. Players use the cards to read short science passages and find out about scientific vocabulary related to oceans.
For the whole class activity, the answers will reveal letters which will give a ‘mystery code’ when these are unscrambled. For extra fun and as a challenge the answers can be used to give a secret 4-digit code.
Who will be the first to find this? Who will get the most cards. The activities make reading and understanding fun and the competitive element will engage students.
Differentiate the memory card game by including the 4 more challenging words and definitions or play a fast game of Snap to encourage skim reading.
This is a great introduction and fun task for the start of a marine life or ocean topic or if you are having a ‘Looking after our world/ environment’ day or week. This is also ideal as a stand-alone comprehension activity.
You will get: Vocabulary Trail- 10 cards with words & explanations
- Answer record sheets for each player or team - use these answers to find letters to unscramble to find the mystery location and crack the 4-digit code
