KS3 Vocabulary Building - Ambitious Vocabulary

This resource was designed to support Key Stage 3 students (Year 10 N. Ireland and Year 9 England) develop their vocabulary in both their writing and oracy skills.

It is designed to be a ‘stepping stone’ towards GCSE studies and for my particular cohort built upon their skills from using the Bedrock programme.
In this booklet, students become secure in 50 ambitious words by completing various tasks such as learning the etymology of the words, practising phonetic pronunciation, drawing the word into a memorable image and using the word in a sentence. This proved effective for my learners as it developed both their curiosity about language but also their oracy and written work.

There is a vocabulary recall test at regular points throughout this 71 page booklet.

This could be completed in lessons or as homework.
