A powerpoint designed to introduce students to the structure and function of water, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, nucleic acids. Additionally the different tests for these biological molecules is included as well (eg. Biuret’s solution for proteins) There is also an outline of how to carry out a vitamin C test using DCPIP.
This lesson can be used as an introduction to the topic or as a prequel to having the students carry out the food tests, maybe as a “mystery solution” investigation where you have different samples of foods in different solutions labeled A,B,C,D etc.
