Can I compare how writers use language and structure to grip the reader?

Lesson in which students compare the differences in structure and language and the effect they have on the reader.
Extracts are of varying difficulties for differentiation (including a 19th century extract with the shift in curriculum towards those texts). Modelled example with the Hobbit extract,
Activities for students to complete ending including a matching activity to understand the differences between structural and language devices with a written task to demonstrate their understanding. Matching activity has a EAL version to help with weaker students.
