Participants are given a ‘magic cane’ which they must lower to the ground, balanced only on their index fingers. What at first seems like a simple task, can become incredibly frustrating for all involved, and requires teamwork and cooperation to complete.

Group Size: 6+
Age Range: 13+ (although safe from 8+)
Setup Time: 2 minutes
The cane will normally appear to rise, much to the group’s frustration. This will often lead to team members looking for a culprit who is responsible.
After a few attempts, it is worth stopping them, and helping them to reflect on:
- Blame
- Noise level
- Whose voices are being heard and whose are not
- How many voices are helpful to hear at one time
- Their plan to get to success
