This resource contains a wide range of math challenges that can be completed together as a whole class or individually.

The challenges cover different aspects of the year 2 and 3 maths national curriculum: number, measurement, geometry and statistics.

These challenges can be used to assess your pupils’ prior knowledge in number, measurement, geometry and statistics. I used this resource with my Year 3 class to help me gain an understanding of the knowledge they had and what misconceptions there were in their learning at the beginning of the year!

The PowerPoint includes 25 slides altogether. The children will be set 11 different ‘missions’ to complete in each topic area.

Missions include:

  1. Finding the next number in a sequence
  2. Making two-digit numbers using different numbers and operations
  3. Finding unit and non-unit fractions of an amount
  4. Equivalent fractions
  5. Identifying the mystery shape from clues about its properties
  6. Position - turning clockwise and anti-clockwise
  7. Using mini clocks to show different times
  8. Telling the time on an analogue city
  9. Worded money problems
  10. Representing data in different ways
  11. Creating a mind map about measurement

Take a look at the images for an example of a mission that the children will complete.
