Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU; Bunker and Thorpe) was developed in 1982 as an alternative to the traditional “skills-based” physical education teaching model. The basic foundation of the TGfU concept states that if physical education teachers can improve their students understanding of game play, their skill performance will improve greatly. Some research has suggested that students who are taught using the TGfU model, develop a more holistic appreciation for games and are more intrinsically motivated in activities that involve decision making and tactics.
This TGfU (Teaching Games for Understanding) Poster Bundle includes 9 different posters that incorporate the TGfU Model for Teaching in Physical Education. The posters include 1. Why TGfU, 2. Concepts of TGfU, 3. Process for TGfU, 4. Categories of TGfU, 5. Target Games, 6. Invasion Games, 7. Net and Wall Games, 8. Striking and Fielding Games and 9. Comparing TGfU to the Traditional Physical Education Teaching Model.
Each TGfU poster includes easy to comprehend, “kid friendly” pertinent information related to the TGfU model and include “action-based” movement images that will help your students easily relate. Each TGfU poster package also includes 5 different background colors to “brighten up” and match your school gym.
The posters are in separate files, located in a Zip folder with 2 file formats per skill- PDF and JPEG The graphics are originally set for 8 ½ by 11 sheets but are “high quality” and can easily be copied on a school or store Poster-Maker to convert to a large sized poster.
