A lesson for KS3 designed to help answer a Q4 style question. Starts with a SMOAP (simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, alliteration, personification) multiple choice quiz to recap key terms (MCQ and answers included). Students then visit the LO and key terms. Connotations starter. Students read 'Rebecca' extract (beginning of the novel). They must then use what they know about quote selection (looking for language devices and words rich in connotation) to think-pair share and decide which quotations are the mist judicious from some given. They then explode the quote - there's a model of what this looks like on the final slide. In the next lesson students will write their analysis paragraphs.
