Numerous studies have shown the benefits of Free Voluntary Reading, particularly with English language learners. Using Free Voluntary Reading had a higher

gain in reading comprehension than those in classes not using the strategy. In addition, other research has demonstrated using Free Voluntary Reading have greater gains in writing, grammar usage, and spelling.
