A lesson on rounding to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000. The lesson gives pupils a recap of place value and then works through rounding the this degree of accuracy. There are also worded problems in which a basic skill can really be stretched by considering bounds ect. There is reverse problems aswell and problem solving questions to challenge all pupils.
This lesson contains plenty of problem solving and reasoning tasks which will prepare all pupils for the 9-1 curriculum. It gives pupils plenty of time to master the skill but then become fluent in using and applying. All tasks are differentiated between 2 and 4 levels to gives all pupils a chance of accessing this lesson. There are solutions to every task to ensure it is easy to self assess. Used with a year 7 class who enjoyed this lesson and encouraged lots of discussion.
