Learn more about the amazing Axolotl with this engaging & fun reading comprehension activity.

This activity is designed to get students thinking about the adaptations of the Axolotl and its current conservation status through a simple reading comprehension activity.

Included in this resource is:

  • A Lesson plan outlining how I would teach the lesson.
  • Teacher reflection questionnaire - ideal for trainee teachers or as evidence for more experienced teachers about the self-reflective practice.
  • Axolotl fact file (Double-sided).
  • Student worksheet (Double-sided) & includes exit ticket activity.

Depending on your students reading age, this could take a whole lesson - it would depend how much you want to stretch the activity.

Alternatively you could use it as a shorter, team based activity, getting students to work in pairs to read the content together.

Reading comprehension is an important skill for students to master in science. By including interesting and quirky animals, I hope to boost my students love for reading non-fiction.

This activity is perfect for home learning as well as face to face teaching.
