A brief discusion / synopsis of Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy ‘out damned spot’
The blood imagery and preoccupation is reminiscent of that scene. Macbeth’s hands are dripping with blood. He holds them out and says “This is a sorry sight.” The use of the word ‘sorry’ here has a duality of meaning in that it conveys the meaning of ‘sad’ and also that of ‘remorse’. It carries with it implications of remorse on Macbeth’s part, a feeling which at no point emanates from Lady Macbeth. Whilst she is tormented there is no indication of remorse and repentance.
