Most passengers taking the flight between Adelaide and Melbourne pass over the Lower South-East of South Australia. On a clear day it is possible to see long lines in the landscape below. These have been formed by natural processes relating to the falling sea levels. Less visible are the maze of smaller lines formed by the construction of channels designed to drain the land. These have converted areas of marshland and swampland into highly productive agricultural land.
This unit looks into the origin of these lines. It indicates that landscapes are often influenced by natural processes that can be modified by human activity.
