A collection of all six spelling, punctuation and grammar tests I have created for use with classes.
Each question paper focuses on and tests 28 common areas of spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG), from capital letters to homophones, ellipses to subordinate clauses and various other key elements in between.
They take a maximum of 45 minutes for pupils to complete and, once finished, pupils can self or peer-mark the papers with the included answer sheets and receive instant feedback on their strengths and weaknesses (teachers may choose to mark them themselves, however this is not required as they are more than capable of doing it themselves, saving on both planning and marking!).
The tests can be completed in any order as they all test the same elements although with different statements / questions. I use one paper each half-term to reinforce the importance of SPaG and to monitor pupil progress. A record of their scores can be kept on the pupil record sheet, also included, which also serves as an easy reminder in lessons as to the areas they need to be aware of when writing.
My classes really enjoy doing these as they allow them to identify their own next steps to work on, but also because they get that immediate feedback to their work.
