Stone Age Boy writing the story

This is a 23 day DIFFERENTIATED TEACHING POWERPOINT complete with a success criteria for each lesson, talk tasks, learner tasks as well as accompanying resources to teach the book, Stone Age Boy. The lessons include comprehension and grammar based on the book and it is pitched at National Curriculum levels that lead to writing the whole story. See breakdown of teaching materials below.

All the lessons follow in sequence and each lesson whether comprehension or grammar builds up to the long writing task, which is to write the opening of Stone Age Boy.

This set of lessons is structured based on the best pedagogical approaches to use in the classroom such as AFL questions to gather what learners already know, the use of talk partners to share learning, allowing learners to choose their own task from MILD, SPICY and HOT (this works wonders for their self-esteem) The tasks are differentiated and progressive and the assessment at the end of the lesson is based on the success criteria.

Writing the opening of the story.

The learners’ can use their work from Day 1 to Day 7 and interweave it into the Long Write. Some lessons include a word bank to support EAL/SEN learners.

Lesson 1 - Comprehension: To make a prediction.

Lesson 2- Comprehension: To answer questions.

Lesson 3 -Comprehension: To answer questions.

Lesson 4 - Grammar: To accurately use speech punctuation.

Lesson 5 - Composition: To use adjectives and expanded noun phrases.

Lesson 6 - Composition: To plan the opening of a story.

Lesson 7 - Grammar: To use adverbs as sentence starters.

Lesson 8 - Composition: To write the opening of a story.

Writing the middle of the story:

The learners’ can use their work from Day 1 to Day 6 and interweave it into the Long Write. Some lessons include a word bank to support EAL/SEN learners and a word bank for all learners to support the long writing task.

Lesson 2- Comprehension: To answer questions.
Lesson 3 - Grammar: To create expanded noun phrases.
Lesson 4: Grammar: To create similes.
Lesson 5 - Composition: To plan the middle of a story.
Lesson 7 - Grammar: To use adverbs.
Lesson 7 - Composition: To write the middle of a story.
