Stop the bus: a new game for your french class.

I want to tell you that this game made me explode with laughter! The coolest thing about it is that you can use it with all levels! Well, we all know the game of the stop the bus. But here, you’ll have version 2.0 for an even more innovative french class.
Here are the rules.

Put your learners in pairs far enough apart.
Hand out Page 1 below to both!

Short explanatory video.

As you can see, under each letter there is a space to write a word. The word they have to write down must start with the letter in question. One pupil writes his word on a grey background and the other on a white background.

Give them 5 minutes to look for words starting with these letters.
For example:

A: Animal
B: Bottle
C: Cat
D: December

Once the 5 minutes are up, the game begins!

Variation 1: B1-B2-C1.
The whole class is in pairs. They have to give the definition of their word to their teammate so that he/she can guess it. For example: Jonathan and Jennifer are together:

Jonathan (letter A): this is what vegetarians never eat.
Jennifer: ANIMAL.
Jonathan: YES! (Jennifer has to write the word on her paper).
Jennifer (letter B): For drinking, we use it.
Jonathan: Bottle
And so on…

They will have to make a race. I don’t mind the noise in the classroom. Whoever finishes first WINS.

Variation 2: all levels.
You can give each pair 10-30 seconds in turn. BUT for this variant you cannot repeat a word that has been said previously by another team. For example, if Jennifer says: ANIMAL. Bonnie from the other team cannot say animal.

Variation 3: B2 - C1.
Same exercise but with masculine words or verbs for the light letters and feminine words or verbs for the dark letters. They won’t be so smart, believe me!

Variation 4: all levels.
Divide your class in 2, cut the letters and put them in a bowl! Every 30 seconds a member of the team has to pick a letter and find a word starting with it to guess. It usually works well after variation 2. The team that finishes with the most letters wins!

Classic baccalaureate variant:
You cut out all the cards with the letters and pick one and read it out loud. Each team has to fill in all the categories on the board as quickly as possible with words that start with the letter they have drawn. The first team to finish must shout stop! And then the whole class puts its hands up. +30 If everyone finds the same word, count 1 point. If a team finds a word that no one has found, it’s 2 points!

Variation 5: You are the boss!
Look in the comments and you’ll find one you like. If not, suggest one! You have a blank sheet in the PDF.

If you want to teach prepositions of place and have fun with all levels. Go for it! Download this game. It’s great!

See you.
