This is a lesson designed to introduce students to the split between Sunni and Shia Islam, as well as some of the key differences and similarities between them in everyday life and practices. This lesson has a key word and exam question focus, following the AQA GCSE 9-1 specification. I have included a 4 mark (part C) exam question, along with guidance about how to answer it and a WAGOLL for students to annotate and compare their answers to. I have created this for Yr8 (as we sit our GCSE RS in Year 10), but can easily be adapted and used for KS4 as it is a useful intro to one of the key Islamic concepts. There is also an accompanying website as one of the slide leads to an external BBC link, which can be used in the classroom to explore 5 different aspects of Muslim life and practices. Students can compete it as you work through. Please do leave feedback :)

I liked the review chart a great deal but I know it would be hard for my 9th graders to understand how to interpret the differences.

The powerpoint is useful but the exam question is vague and the model answer mixes practices and beliefs - in the exam they would be asked about one or other depending on the section.
