The Brain scheme of work: Years Reception to Eleven
Improving children’s metacognition since 2016
This scheme of work offers an exciting opportunity for children aged four to sixteen to learn about the brain, the most important organ in the body, controlling everything we think, feel and do. We offer choice and flexibility in our lesson plans to attract students with all different abilities and aptitudes, from those who just want to know the basics about the brain to those who want to learn about all of the depths of this subject.
We want students:
• To understand just how complex and sophisticated the brain is; including what parts the brain consists of, and what these parts control.
• To understand that the potential of the brain can be improved by simple actions one can perform every day.
• To understand that the brain can also be affected by actions we perform, i.e. drinking, smoking and taking drugs.
Topics covered in this scheme of work:
• What is the brain?
• My memories
• What is my potential in life?
