The poetry of Australian Federation

An 8 page handout - with 2 pages of answers - (10 pages total) - developed for the study of Australian Federation Year 8/9/10 History. The worksheets include a discussion of poet Charles Harpur who was one of the first poets to speak about writing a type of poetry 'distinctively' Australian. There are extracts of his poems with 7 comprehension questions. Students also study Peter Dodds McCormick's 'Advance Australia Fair' , our national anthem. There are a further 8 questions on this source, a few that seek student opinions to differing points of view about the anthem. This unit gives students a context and a perspective of this time in Australia's history when there was significant movement towards Federation.
