The Spice Islands - Early Explorers - Vasco da Gama Ferdinand Magellan

This resource is a seven page PDF document about the early exploration of the world to find spices, the important discoveries made by early Portuguese explorers, Bartolomeu Diaz and Vasco da Gama and how the Dutch managed to secure control of the Spice Islands.

The first two pages contain the information of the story of the Spice Islands. There are also two activity pages included in this resource and an extra extension activity on Ferdinand Magellan. The last two pages of this resource are the answer sheets for the teacher.

This activity was written to use with the Australian Curriculum History K-10 Syllabus. It is an excellent resource to help students understand why exploration of this part of the world eventually led to discoveries of Australia later on. This resource is very helpful if students are then going on to study other early explorers such as Dirk Hartog and Abel Tasman.
