Get your pupils analysing the characters from The Twits using these differentiated FAST activities.
These resources enable pupils to carry out a detailed character analysis. Using the F.A.S.T. technique, pupils will examine the Feelings, Actions, Sayings and Thoughts of Mr and Mrs Twit and other characters from Roald Dahl’s popular novel The Twits to gain an insight into the characters and develop inference skills.
Pupils will look at the following categories:
F = Feelings: How does the character feel?
A = Actions: What does the character do?
S = Sayings: What does the character say?
T = Thoughts: What does the character think?
The activities are differentiated 4 ways to cater for a broad range of abilities in your classroom.
• Higher ability: Pupils find evidence from the text to complete the FAST table for a character of their choice (chapter number required)
• Middle ability 1: Pupils correctly place 10 statements into the correct FAST categories (chapter number required)
• Middle ability 2: Pupils correctly place 8 statements into the correct FAST categories (chapter number required)
• Lower ability: Pupils correctly place 8 statements into the correct FAST categories (chapter number not required)
• Bonus resource: F.A.S.T. Character Map
All resources are provided as easily editable Word documents as well as PDF format. Helpful answer keys are included.
