The Wife of Bath A-Level Edexcel

This pack includes:

• a detailed summary and overview of the Wife’s character, her Prologue and Tale, and Chaucer’s purpose in using this character (context and intention).

• Powerpoints on key symbols, themes and narrative techniques

This is designed for A Level learning, however it can certainly be used to introduce the students to middle english. By providing a detailed handout on plot and purpose prior to reading the middle english text, students will be more confident in what they are reading and will therefore be able to analyse the text more confidently.

Attached is a video that I gave my literature group to help them visualise the tale itself. Again this was used to set a solid foundation for comprehension to allow us to spend more time on analysis, and it proved very useful.

This pack has been used for both CCEA and Edexcel. Can be adapted to suit any exam board style essay.
