For teaching OCR A Level Rebellion and Disorder under the Tudors 1485-1603

This is lesson 3 of the unit ‘Political Stabilty’. This lesson focuses on the role of the judiciary and law in maintaining political stability. This two hour lesson includes an accompanying work booklet!

How did the monarchy use the judiciary and law to maintain political stability?

This lesson covers through a range of tasks and activities;

• Why was law and order so important in maintaining political stability?
• Common law and prerogative courts
• Rumours
• Treason
• Royal Commissions
• Justices of the Peace
• Sheriffs
• Lords lieutenant
• County militia

Overall students will assess what was the most important method monarchs maintained political stability through the judiciary and the law.

Note- students will need the textbook for some of the tasks.
