Why did Booker T. Washington and WEB DuBois have different strategies for advancing the rights of Black Americans during the Progressive Era, and how did their approaches impact the African American community? This lesson and activity examines the background and impact of the fight of African American leaders in the United States during the Progressive Era. Students will analyze primary and secondary source documents. They’ll then answer corresponding scaffolding questions. They will answer the final summary question to apply their knowledge.
