A scheme of work for English based on war literature. This scheme of work is ideal for a lower ability Year 9 group and features a variety of activities. Students will study a number of WW1 poems and use different stimulus to help them complete a number of different writing tasks. Activities include making a propaganda poster (persuasive techniques), comparing viewpoints through poetry, language analysis, interview writing, script writing, creative writing, monologue writing and a research project that focuses on student hopes for the future.
All resources are included. The only resource teachers will need is a copy of the film War Horse to help with the creative writing lesson. Students watch the trench scene to makes notes based on the five senses.
This scheme of work has worked very well with lower ability classes and has been very accessible for boy heavy groups too.
