This resource is a 15 page PDF document with activities to do based on the book Waves by Donna Rawlins, Heather Potter and Mark Jackson. This document contains 14 worksheets for students.

The activities allow the students to reflect on the story and extend their understanding of the themes within this text. The activities included in the worksheets are things such as comprehension questions, vocabulary and grammar activities. There is also a mapping activity and reflection / making connections activities.

There is one worksheet per ‘person’ in the story, with the exception of Olga and Harry who are included in one worksheet as they are from the same time period (late 1940s). We have done this because this book lends itself very well to different history topics (Indigenous studies, convicts, gold rush etc).

Waves is an excellent book for a school to buy a set of as it allows teachers to ‘dip’ in and out of it, using the part/s which work well with the unit they are teaching. This means this text can be used over and over as it covers migration to Australia from 50,000 years before present to 2000s. Keeping our worksheets focused on one person’s migration story at a time allows teachers to use this resource for multiple topics.
