Lesson outline: Analysing primary and secondary evidence about Cheddar Man, the oldest skeleton to be discovered in Britain which dates from the Mesolithic era.
Lesson description: Pupils will use primary and secondary sources of evidence to evaluate inferences about Cheddar Man, including photographs, scientific research, and information about the Mesolithic settlements at Starr Carr and Howick House. They will consider how historians make predictions and inferences from evidence, and learn that, sometimes, more information is required to be able to confirm if their inferences are accurate.
Suggested duration: 1 - 1.5 hours. The lesson may be divided up into two shorter sessions if the teacher feels this to be appropriate.
