The unit focuses on key facts about the history of the ancient civilization that dated from the 8th Century BC, until its downfall by the Roman Republic in 142 AD. The unit has been split into three separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.
The first lesson is interactive and involves them cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the children need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. The activity requires NO PREP; it has a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers and answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of the document.

Time allowance to complete each activity:
5 minutes - read through the text individually.
40 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)
15 minutes - Teacher and students go through the text and answers.

The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about Ramesses II, Cleopatra and Thutmose III, and writing these on to a fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual Egyptian leaders. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on a neat copy using the template provided.
