The aim is for children to make their own alien words using a dice and the chart appropriate to the phase they are working on. There is board for Phase 2, 3 and 5 and a recording sheet.
How to play:
Roll the dice. Find the number you have rolled on the first box. Chose a sound and write it on your sheet under 1st.
Roll it again and find the number you have rolled in the second box. Chose a sound and write it under 2nd.
Roll it a last time. Find the number you have rolled in the third box. Chose a sound and write in on your sheet under 3rd.
Ask your partner to read your alien word. If they can read it give them a P. If they can’t give them a X.
Now its your partners turn.

Kym's Game is a memory game where pupils have to remember which picture is missing. It can be used as a writing activity or which the word boards as a reading activity. Pupils identify which picture they think is missing by either writing or cover the word on the word boards. Challenge slides are included for each game to solve. Our Phase 5 version includes 192 slides which make up 15 games covering words from the word list in the Letters and Sounds document.
Some sounds have been combined into one game. Please note that there is no game for the split digraph e-e.
These are based on the Year 1 Common Exception Words for the new National Curriculum. It includes:
- Monster Mission (find the word 10 times).
- Monster Mayhem which have groups of the Common Exception Words to find.
- Monster Mix Up where the words are jumbled up. There are two versions of this a cut and stick and a written version.

The Sassoon Infant and CCW have two versions; one with the HFWs and then the Tricky Words and another where they are in alphabetical order, in coloured coded boxes with Tricky Words in bold.
The Dyslexie version is slightly different and has a sound mat for Phase 3 and Phase 5 separate and a word mat for each phase including Phase 4 for the HFWs and Tricky Words which can be printed/photocopied on to the back of the sound mats.
