Stave 3 A Christmas Carol 3 lessons
5 lessons on Stave 3 of A Christmas Carol
Lesson 1:
Introductory lesson covering the main events, quotations and big ideas in Stave 3 with accompanying worksheet.
Lessons 2:
Using 5 carefully selected short extracts, students are encouraged to select precise quotations (A01), analyse language choices (A02) and make wider links to context (A03) to explore how Dickens presents ideas about Christmas in Stave 3.
The 5 extracts are coloured to allow for a differentiated group carousel activity.
This resource contains the worksheets and a powerpoint for 1-2 lessons with learning outcomes for exploring how Dickens presents ideas about Christmas in Stave 3 of A Christmas Carol.
There is a differentiated version with boxes for lower ability students to complete.
I have also written 5 model answers for each extract for students to annotate.

Romeo and Juliet Final Lesson: Revise 6 Big Ideas using 3 knowledge organisers
I like to revise BIG IDEAS for my final revision lesson. This lesson is student led.
Students create a mind map 6 BIG IDEAS about Romeo and Juliet using the 3 knowledge organisers to help them form their ideas.
Also includes 6 sample exam questions on one A3 sheet for ease of photocopying. The 6 questions are my predictions for what might come up in 2019.
Romeo and Juliet Helpsheets
Essential A3 revision sheets on 6 characters from Romeo and Juliet
These 3 sheets have been created with the closed book AQA examination in mind. They contain key quotations from Romeo and Juliet in short easy-to-remember chunks. There is also a third revision sheet on 4 supporting characters (Friar, Nurse, Capulet, Mercutio)
My students really enjoyed highlighting and colour coding the revision sheet to demonstrate their understanding.
The sheets have 4 levels of difficulty:
Bronze: Identify where the quotations come from in the play.
Silver: Work out which themes each quotation links to.
Gold: Identify language features within each quote.
Diamond: Link each quotation to context.
An Inspector Calls 5 revision sheets
3 A3 revision sheets, 1 A4 revision sheet and a set of revision cards.
Sheet 1 has carefully selected key quotations for all 6 characters and carefully selected points about context for A03.
Sheet 2 has quotations for 5 themes and exam questions based on each theme.
Sheet 3 is a summary and brief explanation of 10 key quotations for each character.
Sheet 4 contains a summary of key stage directions across the play.
Sheet 1 contains suggested differentiated revision activities:

Apply a word from the word bank to each quotation.
Silver:
Link each quotation to a theme (age, gender, class, responsibility).
Gold:
Use the revision sheet to write essays on all 6 characters.
Ghosts Grade 9 Analysis in A Christmas Carol
Detailed lessons analysing the significance of the 4 ghosts in the novel.
A differentiated worksheet to invite students to explore the impact of each ghost in A Christmas Carol independently. A key extract is selected for each ghost and students answer the tough, tougher or toughest challenges.
Also includes a full lesson analysing the Ghost of Christmas Past extract in greater detail.
Also includes a grade 9 style response on the importance of ghosts to Scrooge’s change and transformation.
AN INSPECTOR CALLS 5 KNOWLEDGE ORGANISERS
Four A3 revision sheets for An Inspector Calls.
Sheet 1 revises character points, quotations and context and has 3 differentiated activities.
Sheet 2 revises themes and has an exam style question for each of the 5 themes:
age
gender
class
responsibility
wealth
power and influence.
Sheet 3 explores the stage directions for each character across the play and asks students to evaluate the changes.

Power and Conflict: 11 comparative writing frames for AQA poetry
4 differentiated writing frames to 4 actual AQA power and conflict past exam questions. Each writing frame has 3 tiers of difficulty to allow for the fact different students in the class require different levels of support and guidance in the run up to the examinations.
Tier 1: Students add the analysis of the quotations. The topic sentences and recommended quotations are already filled in for them.
Tier 2: Students must pick their own 3 quotations from each poem and analyse the quotations.
Tier 3: Students must pick their own topic sentences, quotations and then analsyse the quotations.
The questions covered are as follows:

Macbeth exam responses
A range of high grade Macbeth exam responses.
All responses were written to reflect the ability of grade 8/9 students working under timed conditions.
Marking is subjective but as an experienced examiner, I am confident all of these responses would, in my opinion, fit into the top band because all 6 contain thorough (and at times perceptive) debate with the nuances of the question supported by thorough and at times perceptive analysis of methods and wider ideas supported by fine-grained analysis of judicious quotations.

This popular pack offers great value. It contains various worksheets to support with the teaching of A Christmas Carol for 2022 AQA GCSE examinations.
The pack includes plans to help students respond to various AQA style examination questions.
There is also a comprehensive list of the key quotations from stanzas 1 to 5.
There is also a list of possible AQA style questions and a list of key context points.
There are also helpsheets to structure responses on the character of Scrooge.
An Inspector Calls Character Revision
Use the A3 sheet to revise inferences for 10 quotations per character then compare against the answer sheet. The animations on the PowerPoint reveal each answer one by one so you can go through them in turn.
Activity is differentiated to encourage higher-level students to push for more advanced inferences and to identify and comment on language features and Priestley’s wider purpose.

With Lady Macbeth being the focus for the AQA May 2024 exam, here are a range of resources exploring Lady Macbeth’s character in detail. Includes timeline, poster, model answers, lessons and worksheets.
Romeo Revision Flashcards 9-1 (Romeo and Juliet)
9 Romeo flashcards covering explanations for 27 quotations which cover different aspects of Romeo’s character. Includes a pdf version and an editable version in word.
I normally give students the blank versions of the cards and reveal the answers later in the lesson.
Also includes some theme revision cards too.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL TOP 20, 50 and TOP 100 Quotations
My students voted this as their most useful revision resource for A Christmas Carol.
First ask students to annotate the top 50 quotations in the text and then give out the answer sheet to check their responses.
For weaker students, there is a matching version where students match the 50 quotations to 50 brief explanations.
Also contains more advanced notes on my top 20 quotations linked to A01, A02 and A03.
For students wanting a comprehensive knowledge of the text there is also a 100 quotation version with meanings, methods and message briefly explained for all 100 quotations.
Edexcel GCSE Music Set Works Glossaries
A glossary for each of the 9 Edexcel GCSE Music Set Works.
Each glossary is split into musical elements e.g. rhythm, melody, texture etc.
Edexcel GCSE Music Wider Listening Focus Sheet
A list of wider listening pieces for each area of study for Edexcel GCSE Music (15 for all with you tube links except Fusions where there are 10). A focus sheet where students must research the context and listen to key musical elements in the piece of music.
A differentiated success criteria is also attached - can be used for up to 50 pieces of homework across the 2 years.
Comparing Bayonet Charge and Charge of the light brigade (lesson, writing frame, questions)
PowerPoints on both poems containing questions and activities followed by a writing frame for answering an AQA style exam question which is structured in the following way:
P1. Compare how both poems present the horror of conflict in war.
P2. Compare how both poems present the bravery of soldiers.
P3. Compare how the structure helps show the conflict.
Includes the two poems on one page for ease of printing and to encourage independent analysis before giving students the option of the writing frame.
