Ukraine-Russia War 2022 Reading Comprehension and Worksheets -Updated: April 2024

As a teacher, I understand how difficult it can be to teach complex topics like the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. That’s why I created this reading comprehension activity to help students gain a better understanding of the current situation. The activity includes a 5-page reading passage that summarizes the key events and players involved in the conflict. The passage covers everything from the initial protests in 2014, to Russia’s annexation of Crimea, to the ongoing fighting in Ukraine and international response to the conflict. The passage is written in clear and concise language, making it accessible to students at a range of reading levels. In addition to the reading passage, the activity includes two blank map activities that help students understand the geographical context of the conflict. The first map activity asks students to locate key cities and regions mentioned in the reading passage, while the second map activity asks students to identify NATO member states and their proximity to Ukraine. These activities not only reinforce students’ understanding of the conflict but also help develop their geography skills. The activity also includes a word bank and worksheets with questions in short answer, multiple choice, and true or false formats. The questions are designed to test students’ comprehension of the reading passage and help them develop critical thinking skills. Of course, answer key is also included. I also added Poster and Bulletin Board of Russia and Ukraine. Overall, this reading comprehension activity is an ideal resource for teachers looking to provide their students with a comprehensive and engaging lesson on the ongoing conflict. The activity is suitable for a range of grade levels and can be used as a standalone lesson or as part of a larger unit on current events or world geography.
