This pack of Science activities, aligned to the New Science National Curriculum 2014, is ideal for supporting teaching of Year 4 States of Matter unit focusing on solids, liquids and gases and changes of state. Included are six activities: -Sort it! Students sort the 12 materials cards into solids, liquids and gases. Answers included. -Investigate it! Students investigate how temperature affects the rate of ice cubes melting. -Describe it! Students think of an example of each state of matter. They describe the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Sample answers included. -Explain it! Students describe the role of evaporation and condensation in the water cycle. Sample answers included. -Change it! Students describe the change of state in each photograph. These are; clothes drying on a washing line, ice cream melting, icicles forming and condensation forming on a window. Sample answers included. -Order it! In this activity students research the melting point of various materials. They record the melting points and then order the materials along the image of a thermometer from highest melting point to lowest. Answers included in both degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit. Included are detailed, clear instructions on how to set up the activities and the additional equipment needed for 'Investigate it!'. Included are six activities: -Investigate how water travels through plants. -Design a greenhouse. Pupils label the features of their greenhouse and how they help plants to grow well. -Match up the cards into sets of a) term, b) image and c) description. -Order the stages of the lifecycle of a sunflower. -Explain how air, sunlight, water and soil help plants to grow well. -Describe the plant terms on the card (set of 12 cards included), without saying the three forbidden words on their card. This set of counting task cards is fully aligned to the Year 2 National Curriculum 2014 Maths objective: Pupils should be taught to: -count in steps of 2, 3, and 5 from 0, and in tens from any number, forward and backward Included are 48 task cards, three to a page, complete with answer grids. There are 12 cards for each counting step; 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. Pupils will count on in multiples of the particular number, filling in the missing numbers. When counting in tens, pupils will count on and back in tens from any 2-digit number. Plural or Possessive Activity Cards Help your pupils to understand the difference between plural and possessive nouns with these fantastic activity cards. Included are 36 task cards (four per page), clear instructions and an answer reference sheet. Simply print out the cards, laminate, cut up and they are ready to use. Pupils read the sentence on the card and look at the word in red within the sentence. They decide whether the word is a plural or a possessive noun, needing an apostrophe. Pupils use a dry wipe marker to circle the correct red word at the bottom of the card that fits correctly within the sentence. Pupils (or an adult) can check their answers using the answer reference included. Wipe the cards clean and they are ready to use again!

A fun fractions game to reinforce the concept of fractions of shape. Students must find the matching fraction in numbers and the fraction represented as a shape. In pairs or small groups students deal the cards, face down, equally between themselves. The first player places a card, face up, to begin a pile. The next player places their card, face up, on the pile. Continue until a shape and a numeral card representing the same fraction are placed on top of one another. The student who shouts ‘Snap!’ first keeps that pile. Continue until one player has won all the cards. These cards can also be used to play other games such as memory pairs. These are fantastic resources to support the teaching of adjectives. Included are seven activities which can be implemented as whole class activities or set up as rotations or activities for review. Choose the Adjective Students choose the appropriate adjective from the word bank to describe the nouns in the images. Find the Adjectives Students underline the adjectives within the sentences. The sentences in the first box have one adjective to find and the sentences in the second box have two adjectives to find per sentence. Answer sheet included. Add the Adjective Students add adjectives to the blanks in the sentences to describe the nouns. Character Description Students choose adjectives to describe the monster in the image. They then use their adjectives to write sentences about the monster. Using Adjectives Using a foldable, students think of a nouns that can be described by the adjective on the reverse side of the petal. This is a simple and fun memory card game which reinforces the concept of decimal numbers using clear visuals. There are 24 cards altogether of 12 matching pairs. Each pair has one card which displays the value in digits (whole number and decimal tenths) and one card which display the value visually through a clear diagram. Print, laminate and cut out the cards. In pairs, or small group, students lay the cards face down on a table. They then take turns to turn over two cards. If they find the two matching numerical and visual cards of a particular decimal, they may keep the cards and have another go. If not, they must turn the cards back over and the next person has their turn. It is important to remember where the cards are positioned for future turns! These cards can also be used to play decimal snap or simply as a visual prompt when teaching decimals.
