Students should have a strong understanding of how alpha and beta decay will affect the atomic number and atomic mass before attempting this activity. I recommend laminating the cards and storing in ‘packs’ to be reused time and time again BONUS As a little added bonus, I have included the units in physics puzzle squares activity. Print one sheet per A4 page (one sided) and cut out the squares. Shuffle the squares and have students match the sides of the squares until all 15 cards have been used. There is more than one way to complete this puzzle. High ability students should be able to use all 15 cards. For lower ability students, remove the 2 end columns indicated on the sheet so that they complete the puzzle with 9 cards.
