This lesson looks at Irish rebellions under Elizabeth I. This includes: Shane O’Neill 1558-67 Munster 1569-73 Geraldine 1579-83 Tyrone 1595-1603 The lesson covers: Retrieval starter task Elizabethan Ireland English control in Ireland Reasons why Ireland was a cause of unrest Causes, nature and impact of the 4 Irish rebellions Also included: Two exam questions with detailed planning for students. To what extent were the causes of Irish rebellion similar to those in England in the period 1485-1603? (25 marks) ‘Irish rebellions were a greater threat to Tudor governments than those in England.’ How far do you agree? (25 marks) The second question also includes examplar answers from the 2017 exam ranging from E-A*! Samples are provided from introduction, main paragraphs and conclusions and students will grade these using the mark scheme.
