The Commonwealth Games 2022 Birmingham are almost upon us. Build up the excitement with your students with this word search. My class wanted a challenge so I gave them one. This Commonwealth Games word search is huge. Personally, I printed it off on A3 paper as it has all of the 70 Nations and Territories that are attending the Commonwealth Games in 2022. I actually “buddied up” some of my struggling students to keep them focused as 70 words takes time. My others loved the competitive challenge. Enjoy

Mazes help fine motor control. Mazes require your students to control their pencils through the maze without hitting the black lines. This means that they must take their time rather than rushing, in order to have greater success. Progress can be observed as your students bump into the black lines less and less as they gain greater control of their writing utensils. Students use fine motor control in order to produce correct letter formation and legible handwriting. Mazes are great for problem solving: Mazes help your students to work on their executive functioning skills, such as planning and brainstorming various strategies (e.g. starting from the beginning of the maze or working backwards from the end of maze). STEM Water Drop Race: A Science and Engineering Challenge. This science and engineering challenge will challenge students about water tension. Students will conduct science experiments to introduce themselves to the concept of water tension and how water can move on different surfaces. Recording sheets are provided for students to write their observations and conclusions on. For the advanced students extension questions are provided to extend their knowledge. Also included is a technology challenge in building their own Water Drop Racetrack. This pack contains everything you need (except straws, paper etc). All you need to do is print it off and you are up and running. It can be used as either a group activity or individual. I usually do it as a group as then you can allocate members various roles within the group. Included are instructions, templates and extension question sheet.
