This resource contains a 65-slide PowerPoint lesson on the rules for when and how to add the suffix -ing to verbs. The PowerPoint clearly explains and demonstrates the rules of how to change the verb. It includes:
adding -ing to regular root verbs
adding -ing to words ending in the silent -e
adding -ing to verbs containing short vowel and cvc ending (doubling last letter)
- adding -ing to verbs ending in -ee, -ye, -oe, -ie
- some exceptions to the rules
The PowerPoint contains a variety of opportunities for pupils to practise forming the correct -ing ending including a timed challenge activity in which pupils can use paper/whiteboards to add -ing to verbs and a sorting activity in which pupils are required to decide which verb -ing ending is appropriate.
