White Rose Maths - Year 4 - Block 3 - Length and Perimeter (Varied Fluency and Problem solving and reasoning practice)

6 Resources
A set of varied fluency and a set of problem solving and reasoning worksheets to use alongside the White Rose Maths scheme. Both sets of questions have been differentiated 3 ways, each with an individual sheet of questions for that level. Answers are also included. This set of worksheets are for Year 4, Autumn Block 3 (Length and Perimeter), focusing on all the small steps. Details of how they have been differentiated can be found below: Perimeter on a grid (Varied Fluency): • 1 Star sheet (Working Towards Expected Level): Be able to calculate the perimeter of squares and rectangles on a grid. • 2 Star sheet (Expected Level): Be able to calculate the perimeter of rectilinear shapes on a grid. • 3 Star sheet (Working at greater depth): Be able to calculate the perimeter of more complex shapes on a grid. Perimeter of rectangles (Varied Fluency): • 1 Star sheet (Working Towards Expected Level): Be able to calculate the perimeter of a square by using the measurement of one side and also by using the total perimeter to work out the length of one side. Numbers are 1 or 2 digits in cm. • 2 Star sheet (Expected Level): Be able to calculate the perimeter of squares and rectangles by using the measurement of one side and also by using the total perimeter to work out the length of one side. Numbers are 2 or 3 digits in cm. • 3 Star sheet (Working at greater depth): Be able to calculate the perimeter of squares and rectangles by using the measurements of one side and also by using the total perimeter to work out the length of one side. Numbers are 1 or 2 digits, including decimals, in m Perimeter of rectilinear shapes (Varied Fluency): • 1 Star sheet (Working Towards Expected Level): Be able to calculate the perimeter of a rectilinear shape made up of 2 rectangles. Measurements are 1/2 digits in cm. • 2 Star sheet (Expected Level): Be able to calculate the perimeter of a rectilinear shape made up of 3 rectangles. Measurements are 2/3 digits in cm. • 3 Star sheet (Working at greater depth): Be able to calculate the perimeter of a rectilinear shape made up of 3 rectangles. Measurements are 2/3 digits, including numbers with one decimal place, in m. Perimeter (Problem Solving): • 1 Star sheet (Working Towards Expected Level): Be able to calculate perimeter of squares, rectangles and rectilinear shapes made up of 2 rectangles. Measurements are either 1 or 2 digits and in cm. • 2 Star sheet (Expected Level): Be able to calculate perimeter of squares, rectangles and rectilinear shapes made up of 3 rectangles. Measurements are either 2 or 3 digits and in cm. • 3 Star sheet (Working at greater depth): Be able to calculate perimeter of squares, rectangles and rectilinear shapes made up of 3+ rectangles. Measurements are 2 or 3 digits, including decimals and in m. Kilometres (Varied Fluency and Problem Solving): • 1 Star sheet (Working Towards Expected Level): Be able to convert between km and m in multiples of 1000m. Be able to add up to 1km. • 2 Star sheet (Expected Level): Be able to convert between km and m in multiples of 1000m/500m. Be able to add up to 10km • 3 Star sheet (Working at greater depth): Be able to convert between km and m in multiples, including numbers with 2 decimal places. Be able to add up to 20km, including numbers with 2 decimal places. The varied fluency worksheets contain a total of 8 questions, some broken down into parts (a, b, c etc.) with 2 examples of each question type. This provides children with the varied fluency that White Rose aim for. These questions can be used as a quick starter and cut up so that only the first 4 questions are used, or given as more of a main activity with all 8 questions. They could also be used for partner work, depending on the ability of the children. The problem solving and reasoning worksheets contain a total of 8 questions. These questions could be used as a whole, or cut up into strips of 4 questions for a shorter task. They could also be used for partner work, depending on the ability of the children. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Likewise, I am still developing these resources, so any helpful comments would also be appreciated.
