Create a fabulous Spanish look and feel in the learning environment, promoting Spanish as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of the classroom. Telling the time is key beginner Spanish vocabulary, which is really useful to know as soon as possible, and students are able to familiarise themselves with how Spanish words ‘look’, and also how sounds are represented in the written form.
I use these kinds of flashcards / posters to gradually introduce and work on the specific target language vocabulary we’re working on, and to provide speaking and pronunciation prompts, from the straightforward ¿Qué hora es? to ¿Sí/ no? or ¿Verdadero o falso? questions, which allow us to move to from one-word responses to more complex language, such as negative sentences No, no es medianoche, es mediodía and so on, paying particular attention here to the masculine and feminine.
These are really simple ways to really try to get the most from classroom learning dsiplay, using them as visual language prompts, as well as keeping the target vocabulary fresh in students’ minds, and as language refresh and revision by changing the display at certain points of the school year. I like to have sets of learning displays for students, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time.
Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating.
The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or plain, so 56 flashcards / posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years!

KS3 KS4 GCSE FRENCH VERBS PERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE FOCUS ON 25 HIGH-FREQUENCY REGULAR & IRREGULAR FRENCH VERBS My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, with full answer key. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for homework, for practice and revision during holidays and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they’re really versatile, and ideal for advanced KS3 French and KS4 French students who are beginning to work with more complex language and texts. The workbooks focus on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, and I’ve found that when my students are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their conjugation skills are developing well.
The resource is structured as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills.

PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES Sopas de letras are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 33 Spanish Christmas words, which I also use as a prompt to stimulate discussion about Spanish Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too.
There are 5 Spanish to Spanish grids, where students are prompted with the Spanish words, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! There are also 5 English to Spanish grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Spanish equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in Spanish, they also complete the Spanish word list on each page. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid.
There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are absolutely essential for me, as they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, help them develop more independence in their learning.
There’s a Spanish-English Christmas vocabulary reference sheet - you can either laminate this to share around small groups of students, or give one to each student to stick into their learning workbooks as a general reference resource. Students will have to look carefully at some of the words they’re looking for, as they may appear slightly differently - for example, they may have to find the gifts and work out what that is in Spanish - only the prompt the gift appears in the reference list.

Sopas de Letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on a range of vegetables in Spanish, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The fruits include***masculine, feminine, singular and plural***, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps students think a little more laterally about language, and their new vocabulary - they may learn la patata, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example. I’ve selected high-frequency vegetables, such as potato or cabbage, and also vegetables which may be new to some learners, such as asparagus or artichoke. There are a range of phonemes and sounds too, such as the ***letter j (ajo)***, which is a sound particular to Spanish, and the letter ñ (champiñones), as the tilde + n plays a very important role in Spanish pronunciation.
There are 5 Spanish to Spanish grids, labelled with carrots, where learners are prompted with the Spanish words, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to Spanish grids, labelled with a pepper, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the Spanish equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in Spanish, they also complete the Spanish word list on each page. Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid.
There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers, or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches are in landscape format, as I’ve found this to be the best format for beginner language learners - language is very clear and accessible.

GCSE FRENCH KS3 FRENCH KS4 FRENCH CONDITIONAL TENSE FOCUSING ON 25 HIGH-FREQUENCY FRENCH VERBS My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, answer key and verb lists.
The workbook focuses on formation and conjugation, rather than usage, though it’s definitely useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb formation and conjugation. For example, language learners do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation in their first language, and the language they are learning, and with students whose first language is English, I frequently see students looking for a word that is the equivalent of would, until they familiarise themselves with the fact that the notion of conditional is indicated in the verb ending. It’s also easy to confuse the simple future tense endings with the conditional tense endings, and targeted practice helps to address that really well.
The format is as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes and Next Steps, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of French conjugation works, reflect on what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets.

The workbook focuses on formation and conjugation, rather than usage, though it’s definitely useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb formation and conjugation. For example, language learners do often try to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language, with the grammar of the language they are learning. Students with English as a first language for example often look for a direct equivalent of will, similar to when they first meet the future tense, or using***avoir*** instead of***être*** for verbs which require être as the auxiliary. Students do need to to have a good grasp of the auxiliary verbs être and avoir in the future tense as well as the patterns in forming past participles, to ensure that they can form the future perfect tense accurately.

400 high-frequency French adjectives, listed alphabetically French-English with gender agreement guide - a great learning support resource for GCSE French and as a refresher and vocabulary audit for A Level French students. It’s useful to give the book to advanced KS3 French students too, as it provides a language road map with learning goals, outlining the adjectives they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning.
I create a lot of language learning reference books for my languages students, they’re really popular with my students, who like to have a bank of reference resources for both initial learning and longer-term learning and revision. There are 22 pages in the book, and all 400 adjectives are listed alphabetically French-English. Each adjective is also shown in the masculine, feminine, singular and plural forms, which my students find really helpful as they begin to engage with gender agreement in French. I use the reference book for quick vocabulary quizzes too - either I or a nominated student shouts out a French or English adjective, with teams giving the corresponding French or English adjective - I’ve found this is a really successful way of avoiding more formal vocabulary tests, while still providing students with frequent opportunity to refresh and embed essential French vocabulary.
The adjectives are useful for engaging with the following topics and themes:
youth, identity & lifestyle : fashion : culture, customs and traditions relationships and family : technology and social media : sport, health and fitness; free time, hobbies and interests : entertainment and leisure : food and drink; France and French-speaking countries : local, national & international global areas of interest : transport : holidays, tourism and travel : environment, pollution, recycling and climate : social issues : school, college, current and future study : work experience, skills and personal qualities : employment, ambitions and career plans

EFL ESL ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER ENGLISH FRUITS & VEGETABLES I HAVE, WHO HAS? GAME
This resource consists of non-editable files in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully.
A lively & communicative whole-group language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing a range of fruits and vegetables in English, ideal for advanced beginner English and intermediate English students. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. I point out particular phonemes and sounds, such as the soft c in lettuce compared to the hard c in carrot, and the addition of n to a when preceding a noun starting with a vowel, such as an aubergine or an orange for example. The aim of the game is to create an English sentence chain as quickly as possible.
There are 28 fruits featured in the game: green apple; red apple; banana; cherry; date; fig; grapefruit; green grapes; red grapes; honeydew melon; kiwi; lemon; lime; mango; nectarine; olive; orange; papaya; peach; pear; pineapple; pumpkin; raspberry; redcurrants; rhubarb; starfruit; strawberry; watermelon
and 28 vegetables: artichoke; asparagus; aubergine; green beans; beetroot; broccoli; Brussels sprout; cabbage; carrot; cauliflower; celery; cucumber; garlic; leek; lettuce; mushroom; onion; peas; green pepper; red pepper; yellow pepper; potato; sweet potato; radish; spinach; sweetcorn; tomato; zucchini
There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as the lack of adjectival agreement and gender, and position of adjectives, which are often entirely new concepts for many ESL/EFL learners. Nouns feature definite, indefinite and partitive articles too. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more!
The question card template provides an additional learning activity, with students applying their developing English language knowledge creatively and practically, as they make game cards for the class - this is a really popular activity with my students. I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years.

PRIMARY SPANISH KS2 SPANISH YEAR 7 SPANISH KS3 SPANISH DAYS OF THE WEEK WORD SEARCHES
Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use.
Word searches are a great way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. These are ten differentiated word searches focusing on the days of the week in Spanish. My students really enjoy practising their vocabulary with word searches. They like to work independently, either alone, in pairs or in small groups, challenging themselves (and each other!) to progress through the challenges.
Word searches are easily differentiated: there are five Spanish to Spanish grids, with the Spanish words as prompts. Students then find them in Spanish in the grid. A great way of really consolidating vocab is to get students to complete the word list on the grid sheet too. There are also five English to Spanish grids. With these, the prompt words are in English, so students have to know the correct Spanish word in order to find it in the grid. There’s a word list to complete on these too. As the challenge increases, the words appear in an increasing number of different directions, and students can identify which directions they’re looking for by referring to the arrow key on each grid. Each grid has a corresponding answer key. Search grids and answer keys are in landscape format.
I use the word searches regularly - as starters, refreshers, plenaries, fun-time fillers or activities for cover lessons, at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m introducing days of the week in Spanish.

HIGH-FREQUENCY GERMAN VERBS GERMAN PRESENT TENSE GCSE GERMAN PRESENT TENSE KS4 GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE KS3 GERMAN GRAMMAR GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE AND IDEAL FOR GERMAN TRANSLATION PRACTICE
The product is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use carefully.
The set features 25 high-frequency German verbs in the present tense. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two design formats:
= Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new regular German verbs they learn, which helps them develop a really useful German verb bank.
= Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs
= answer key
The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and various question formats. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practise locating the verb or infinitive accurately. Students may not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging with new language, as well as practising and reinforcing the current language focus.
There are three differentiated conjugation challenges:
= Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding translation. Translating accurately is an important skill for language learners to engage with and master, and this kind of focused practice is really useful for them.
= Challenge 2: straightforward conjugation drill: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation.
= Challenge 3: mirrors Challenge 1, with an increased challenge. Students write the German translation, and the infinitive of the key verb, from a basic English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize both the correct conjugation and an accurate translation.
