PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH FOR CHILDREN TELLING THE TIME ANALOGUE HALF PAST LIST WITH MATCHING CLOCK FACES The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom. The license is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of French, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. Children glue the lists into their French vocabulary books, or file them in their French vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful French vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. For young and / or beginner French learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows half past the hour on a single page. This is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to French prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with a particular time set, I then move on to additional time sets. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I use for French vocabulary display, or plain. My students find this telling the time in French half past the hour worksheets really useful: TELLING THE TIME IN FRENCH HALF PAST THE HOUR WORKSHEETS: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-telling-the-time-half-past-worksheets-freebie-12867105 Have a look at this reference guide for telling the time in French, every analogue clock time with matching clock faces: (£3): FRENCH TELLING THE TIME REFERENCE GUIDE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-telling-time-reference-book-12644907 Have a browse in my store for more French visual vocabulary lists, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with French resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. FRENCH NUMBERS 0-21 WORD WALL FREEBIE

(2)
PRIMARY FRENCH KS2 FRENCH NUMBERS 0-21 WORD WALL It’s easy to create an instant introduction to French Numbers 0-21 with this set of word wall cards, featuring beginning numbers that I like to share with my young learners of French. They’re really useful during the introduction phase, and we also use them for developing language skills and awareness in general. We like to do number guessing and calculation games at regular intervals too. There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the words are definitely big enough for children to be able to read - we do lots of guessing and mental math games, using these as a visual prompt. Although I tend to get my students to prepare the word wall header, I’ve included one here, as we often have both on our wall. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or black wave. The cards to look great in colour, but are still really nice if you prefer to print in B&W to keep costs down. I definitely recommend that you print on card stock and/or laminate as it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense. The word wall cards hang really nicely, and they remain in excellent condition for a long time, so you’ll be able to use the***French Numbers Word Wall*** for years. EFL ESL ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-100 LIST Create an instant reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency beginner English vocabulary. I’ve found that these kinds of reference lists are a really successful learning support resource, and are really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. I designed this specifically for my young and/or beginning learners of English, and it’s suitable for a range of ages and learning stages. There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag, which I often use for display in the EFL ESL ELL classroom, or black wave. The numbers are written across single page in landscape format - I use this for more experienced English learners, who are a little more comfortable with reading in***English***- the font is fairly small. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I encourage my beginner Italian students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organising their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource binders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files. We also use twine or thick string, which young Italian learners really enjoy making. I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced Italian learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning Italian for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. Die Farben auf Deutsch - 8 posters / flashcards These four my favourite colour posters make an ideal speaking prompt in the Primary German classroom - I encourage children to ask each other Was ist deine Lieblingsfarbe? as a lesson starter / warm-up, and to select a different colour every time they answer. As they learn more colours, their answers become more varied. I tend to introduce the plural form with the connective und (and) quite quickly, so that children can extend their answers as much as they possibly can - they have great fun seeing who knows the most colours, and can create the longest answers. The key colours are: blue, green, pink and yellow. There are two backgrounds to choose from - either the German flag, or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. Laminate the posters if possible, or print on card stock, particularly if you’re going to use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too: they’ll display really nicely, and remain in excellent condition for years. KS3 GERMAN PRIMARY GERMAN KS4 GERMAN GREETINGS BUNTING BANNERS It’s great to create a new look for the new school year - I use bunting/banners not only to create a real German look and feel in the learning environment, but also to promote everyday language and core vocabulary for learners of all ages. Bunting works well throughout the entire school year, but definitely has a celebratory back to school feel! The bunting has a small tag that you can clip to a line of string across the room (like a washing line!), or to a wall. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a second collection of 25 high-frequency Spanish adjectives that I’ve found are ideal for beginner Spanish into intermediate Spanish learning programmes - it’s an important step in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful Spanish adjectives vocabulary bank, are able to recognize Spanish adjectives, and are confident with the meaning of those adjectives in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at adjectival agreement, producing more complex and descriptive language, and using the adjectives in a communicative and practical context, which is essential for progressing in language learning. The purpose of the list isn’t to simply learn all 25 adjectives by rote: it’s a longer-term reference resource that students use for example when they’re writing creatively, preparing written texts, or working with their talk partner to develop speaking skills. My students also use their vocabulary reference lists to help them audit their developing Spanish vocabulary in general. There are two alphabetical lists - one Spanish-English, and one English-Spanish, as I’ve found that most language students prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag, which I generally use for Spanish vocabulary display, and plain. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on adjectives in Spanish for your students, the list is a good starting point. Die Farben auf deutsch 12 posters / flashcards These four adjectival agreement posters, with a focus on the colour grün, make an ideal grammar and speaking prompt in***German class*** - for example, I encourage students to look carefully at the similarities and differences between der grüne Regenschirm and die grüne Flasche in the singular, and die grünen Regenschirme and die grünen Flaschen in the plural. I use questions such as Richtig der falsch? die grüne Regenschirme? , really emphasising, even exaggerating pronunciation, so that they can hear the difference in agreement. I often write the questions on the whiteboard too, as it’s equally important that they are able to recognize the differences in the written words too, and to link sound with spelling - all of this means I really make the most from my classroom learning display. I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of Spanish, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. The worksheet is useful for consolidating both fruits vocabulary and spelling, and students really enjoy testing their recall. This kind of worksheet is really versatile: I use for cover lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. There are two versions to choose from - colour, which makes the worksheet really visually appealing, or BW, which saves prep expense, and is also a popular activity with younger students, who like to colour as they read aloud, write and practise their i. A lively whole-group communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing & refreshing how to count from 0 - 31 in English. The game has a***multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading***, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to create an English number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card zero, and ending with the final card, thirty-one. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. Laminate the cards if you can - they’re more learner-friendly, and they remain in excellent condition for years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I often play too - students really do enjoy it when I join in, and they seem to work that little bit harder on their concentration and pronunciation. Students walk around the room, talking to each other in their best English accent, sharing the information on their cards, until they have arranged the numbers in the correct order. It’s useful for advanced beginner Italian students to provide a language learning map, and for intermediate Italian students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and as a vocabulary audit and enrichment. The verbs are all in the infinitive form and include regular and irregular high-frequency Italian verbs. I’ve noted where a verb is conjugated with essere, which is a really handy quick guide to the particular features of the verb, and useful for later learning when we look at conjugation, such as the passato prossimo for example. It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful Italian verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency Italian verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning. ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE

ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE

(1)
ADVANCED BEGINNER ENGLISH INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE 10 cards in question format Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. The questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional, with a couple of questions focusing on if + subjunctive + conditional clauses. There is a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, particularly the use of tenses. I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in English. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to keep the conversation going. Frequent and regular engagement with the activity brings the best results: with the planning sheet, students can create and prepare increasingly detailed and more complex responses, reflecting their learning progress. I definitely find it useful to read through the questions together as a whole-group, with students offering initial suggested responses. This ensures everyone can actually access the language, and they also benefit a lot from each others’ ideas. Have a browse in my store for more English conversation starters and independent learning activities, and a wide range of other English teaching and learning materials, with English resource boxes, special offer bundles and lots of freebies. This French-speaking countries word searches freebie comprises two differentiated word searches with answer keys, featuring a range of countries where French is an official language. I have a set of 10 differentiated word searches with country, capital city and flag reference list in my store too - the full set description is as follows: Mots cachés are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches with answer keys, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 40 countries / territories where French is an official language. The word searches help students***develop their knowledge and awareness of the Francophone world***, and just how widely it is spoken around the globe. I’ve used the definite article for the countries, so that students can see which countries are masculine, and which feminine, which in turn helps consolidate knowledge of gender in French. In Grids 1-4, students search for a particular country. In Grids 5 & 6, they search for a range of capital cities. Grid 7 gives 16 capital cities as prompts, and students search for the corresponding countries in the grid. Similarly, in Grid 8, there are 16 countries given, and students search for the corresponding capital cities in the grid. Grids 9 & 10 show a selection of national flags, and students search for the corresponding countries in the grid, and also write the country name in the prompt box next to the individual flag. There is a single grid per page, A4 (8.5 x 11) portrait format. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Each grid has a corresponding answer key, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. I’ve included a complete reference sheet of all 40 countries, capital cities and flags - you can either laminate this to share around small groups of students, or give one to each student to stick into their learning workbooks as a general longer-term reference resource. We also use twine or thick string, which young French learners really enjoy making. I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced French learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning French for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed in any way outside your own classroom. It is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. *** 25 high-frequency Spanish verbs, listed alphabetically Spanish-English and English-Spanish ideal as a year-round reference resource, and students find it particularly useful for exam revision, whether working in class time or at home. It’s useful for advanced beginner Spanish students to provide a language learning map, for intermediate Spanish students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and advanced Spanish students as a vocabulary audit and enrichment. The verbs are all in the infinitive form and include regular and irregular Spanish verbs. It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful Spanish verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency Spanish verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning long lists of verbs or other vocabulary all at once though: frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. I also use the books for quick vocabulary quizzes, again at frequent and regular intervals - I simply shout out the Spanish or English verb, the first student or team to shout out the correct answer wins a point. I’ve found this to be a really successful alternative to more formal vocabulary testing. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency Spanish verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point.
