Iideal multi-skill language learning activity for developing listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling skills for German language learners of all ages - in my experience, adult learners really enjoy a few competitive games of bingo too! I’ve described the games as not grade-specific, as the general goal for me is not to learn a lot of German Christmas vocabulary as such, but to work quite specifically on German language skills development. There are 100 grids in total, in both colour & BW. The color grids definitely look really good, but can prove expensive to prep - I have sets that I’ve laminated, and students use wipe-free pens, so that the grids can be used many times. Younger learners do tend to prefer the BW grids, taking some additional time to colour them in themselves. I often combine that activity with revision of colours, which can work really well too. The games are designed for players to cross off all the words or pictures on their grids in order to win the game. This set comprises the following: 40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) You can give students a random selection of pages, with students selecting the order of grids they play from. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students then select grids randomly from the bowl. For additional challenge, students can play all four grids in a single game. Colour and BW 40 words & pictures bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) Colour & BW 10 picture-only 30-square grids (A4 portrait format) Distribute the grids among students, several grids per student, which they choose randomly for every game. There should be several winners per game, depending on the size of the group. Colour & B&W 10 words & pictures 30-square grids (A4 portrait format) Colour & B&W Calling card, featuring 32 German Christmas words. Print or photocopy double-sided to minimise prep. There are 8 check columns per page, so that you can really get the most from each card - call the words randomly, ticking them off as you go, so that you can check the winning grids. You can vary the use of the definite and indefinite article, singular or plural. Students should also be the bingo caller, rather than always the teacher. Calling card, featuring the English translation of the German Christmas words. This is great for additional challenge - students hear the English word, and translate it quickly, looking for it in writing in German in the grid FROHE WEIHNACHTEN UND EINEN GUTEN RUTSCH INS NEUE JAHR!

These Numbers 0-20 addition and subtraction Christmas games cards are great for developing numeracy skills. There are 72 calculations in total - 36 addition and 36 subtraction. The answer cards are marked with a plus or minus sign. PRIMARY SPANISH CHRISTMAS NUMBERS 0-20 ADDITION & SUBTRACTION CARDS WITH WHOLE-GROUP WARM-UP GREAT FOR YEAR 7 TOO! This is a set of Primary Spanish Numbers 0-20 Christmas games cards. I created them for my younger learners to practise their Spanish numbers around Christmas time - they love the Christmas theme! I’ve found that Christmas is a great time to revisit language learned earlier in the year, and the games cards are also multi-skill - reading, speaking, listening - they’re ideal for honing numeracy skills too. Children really like to work together as they play the games. I’ve described several games that are really successful for us that you can try. I always do a quick warm-up and recap of numbers before we play any number games, and the simple forwards and backwards counting presentation is ideal for this. There are 72 calculations in total - 36 addition and 36 subtraction. The answer cards are marked with a plus or minus sign. This means that there are 144 cards in total - I always laminate my languages games cards because they’re far easier to work with and last for years - so do try to laminate them if you can. HAPPY CHRISTMAS MULTILINGUAL BUNTING

CHRISTMAS IS COMING! Create a fabulous and festive multilingual Christmas feel in your learning environment with HAPPY CHRISTMAS BUNTING IN 30 LANGUAGES! I’ve used the Latin alphabet throughout. Print the bunting on card stock if possible, as it will hang really nicely, and last a lot longer! Paper is fine too as an alternative. The bunting hangs best using mini-pegs on string, but also looks good pinned directly to walls as a horizontal poster display. I like to cut out the triangle shape, particularly if I’m hanging the bunting on string across a particular space, but you can also print out and hang as an A4 poster if you prefer, as that’s a little less prep-intensive! B&W works well, but colour is best if possible! The languages featured are: Albanian Bulgarian Catalan Croatian Czech Danish English Esperanto Estonian Finnish French German Greek Icelandic Irish Gaelic Lithuanian Norwegian Polish Portuguese Romanian Russian Scottish Gaelic Serbian Spanish Swedish Welsh The resource consists of a single, non-editable file, and is copyright - it may not be copied or shared in any way. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. I love to give my learning environment a really French Christmas feel - even my older students appreciate it. With my younger learners, it’s not about learning all the French Christmas vocabulary (30 is too many for young beginners), it’s about giving them daily opportunities to engage with the French language through guessing and spelling games, pronunciation practices and so on. I’ve included a selection of both generic Christmas words, such as bauble and Christmas tree, as well as more Francophone-specific words, such as Père Fouettard and la galette des Rois. The Christmas words are: = the angels = the Christmas stockings = the Christmas tree = Father Christmas/Santa Claus = Father Fouettard = the chocolate log = the Christmas candy canes = the crib/nativity scene = the Infant Jesus = The Three Kings/Wise Men = the snowman = the gingerbread man = the fireplace = the Christmas candle = the carol singers = the elves = the Kings’ cake = the Christmas baubles = the snowflakes = Santa’s sack = Santa’s sleigh = the reindeer = the Christmas presents = the holly = the mistletoe = the Christmas bells = the Christmas wreath = the Christmas star = Saint Nicholas = the Christmas twigs It doesn’t matter if some of the words don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards / posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are two backgrounds to choose from: blue winter or snow, so 60 posters / flashcards in total. They are in portrait A4 (8.5x11) format. I definitely recommend that you print on card stock and/or laminate for longevity - you’ll be able to display your French Christmas posters and use them as flashcards to introduce French Christmas words, as well as discuss similarities and differences in Christmas customs, for years to come! It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Ideal for Primary French and KS3 French My students love to do these word searches around Christmas time - we do them several times in the run up to Christmas - they really are great for developing reading, writing and spelling in French - and engaging with French Christmas vocabulary too - my older students really enjoy them too. There are 30 French Christmas words, which helps them to develop awareness of some Francophone Christmas traditions and figures, such as Saint Nicolas and Père Fouettard. I also use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about French Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too. Word searches are really easily differentiated: there are 5 French to French grids, as well as an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to French grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the French equivalent in the grid - they also have to complete the French word list on each page for extra spelling and vocabulary practice. The challenge gets more intense through the grids - students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Search grids and answer keys are in landscape format. There’s a reference list of all the French Christmas words too - this is a really useful support resource to ensure all learners can do the searches. They’ll have to look carefully at some of the words though - for a little extra challenge, sometimes I’ve changed words slightly - such as using an elf’, where the reference list shows***the elves***’. GERMAN REFLEXIVE VERBS PRESENT TENSE

(1)
GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN REFLEXIVE VERBS PRESENT TENSE 25 high-frequency German reflexive verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for KS3 German KS4 German students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in German. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, with the German present tense, I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the singular pronouns, including the pronoun man form being identical, pointing out also that man is commonly used in German, often also meaning we, unlike the pronoun one in English. Students do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation, and I frequently see attempts such as ich bin mich waschen for I am getting washed or similarly***ich mache / tue mich erinnern*** for I do remember. The workbook comprises the following: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes & Next Steps template, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. answer key Try this free sampler: GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-conjugation-practice-example-12154187 This resource consists of non-editable files in a zipped format. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. An ideal introduction to Europe, helping students develop their awareness of European countries, capital cities and flags. There are 60 countries featured in the quiz. Each country is presented individually with its capital city and flag - as you show the slides, encourage students to shout out the country names as they appear - this tends to aid memory quite considerably - I point out the location of each country on the background map, which helps students situate each country within the continent, and visualizing the location of the countries again aids memory. The presentation is followed by a series of 100 questions. The questions are structured slightly differently to differentiate the challenge a little: some focus on the countries, others on capital cities, and some on flags. Taken together, students will definitely develop a sound locational knowledge of the countries of Europe, their capital cities and flags. The quiz works particularly well with several teams - encourage each team to choose a***European-themed team game***. Teams can either take it in turns to answer a question, but it’s also great fun, and keeps up a lively pace, to play as a Shout it out! quiz - whoever shouts out the correct answer first wins the point. The quiz works really well across the entire school year, and not just in geography or social science lessons - it’s really popular in form time too!. The presentation moves on with a click. Each question slide is followed by the relevant answer slide - simply click, and it appears! The resource cannot be edited due to copyright and licensing restrictions of the fonts and clipart. Please note this is the Geography World Continents Europe Presentation & Quiz version of my European Day of Languages Europe Presentation & Quiz - please ensure you have not already purchased the European Day of Languages version. French-speaking countries, capital cities and flags game cards provide great cross-curricular learning opportunities for any appropriate age group, at any time of the school year. Students can develop their language skills, as well as their knowledge of both the French-speaking and wider world, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The set features 41 countries / territories where French is an official language, with each picture card showing the continent and national flag, and the corresponding text card detailing continent, country and capital city. There is a set of detachable continent, country and capital city labels. Labelling is a really successful and popular learning activity. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones. I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too. There is a country, capital city and flag reference list of all countries and capital cities, including the continent on which each is located. Students find it useful to read this through before playing I generally allow them only 60 seconds on a timer to really focus their reading and increase the sense of competition if we are playing competitive team games. I’ve described a range of popular games and activities in the product pack. The list can also be used as a year-round reference resource, which students can file in their workbooks or learning files. Laminate the cards and reference sheets if you can - it’s really worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. With structured speaking prompts, students are able to develop confidence in their German speaking, working independently in pairs or small groups. At the same time, they are building their vocabulary and enhancing their understanding and knowledge of German grammar too. There are 50 questions with 50 suggested responses, so 100 cards in total. The questions range in complexity and content. As students become more confident and competent, they begin to rely less on the prompt cards, and answer questions in their own way - and even ask them differently too, if their talk partner is using the answer card as the main prompt.
