As part of our drive for numeracy across the curriculum, I've created a series of tutorials for teachers to offer ideas of how to incorportae numeracy starters into any lessons. In this one, Pupils attempt a challenge to start the lesson that relates to counting the boxes - use basic numeracy skills and pattern recognition.

Titanic Literacy Unit Lesson 3 This is one of the lessons from a unit of work on The Titanic. The unit explores the Titanic and uses this as the context. Pupils learn and engage with it and develop their literacy at the same time. Ideal for Histpry lessons as well as English and targeted at year 7 level 4 learners. There are other lessons that I've uploaded from the same scheme of work.

This is a lesson powerpoint that is ready to teach - albeit, you may wish to adapt it for your own context. It is aimed as an intro to History in Year 7. I've uploaded a series of lessons that can be taught together for the final outcome or, quite easily as standalone lessons. This particular lesson covers how we measure history.

This is one of a full unit of lessons that I have uploaded with their resources. You can teach the lessons by themselves and without the others, or feel free to use them all. If you type 'spoken language study Miss R' into a resources search at the top of the screen, they will all come up More…in a list. This one is a lesson that shows the pupils how to annotate their script and then how to use that to write about language. I usually embed my resources at the end of the PP, so you are likely to find them after the last slide.

Titanic History lesson – Empathy with the Passengers All of the lessons can be taught together, but each covers a topic so can also be picked up separately. For ease of locating, the title stem is the same: 'Titanic History lesson'. This is a full PowerPoint lesson, ready to teach, but you will want to adapt it / update it for your own context and any resources are also uploaded with it. This lesson gets pupils to put themselves in the shoes of the passengers so that they can empathise with them.

Jack The Ripper – Info From Sources This is a full lesson PowerPoint that is ready to teach (with resources if applicable) – although you will wish to adapt it for your own context – it’s part of a Humanities curriculum that is taught to Year 7 pupils, so covers Geography, History and Literacy skills. There are a series of lessons that I have uploaded. They can be taught as a group, or as a standalone as each is an entire complete lesson. 10 Minute History Starter – Reichstag Fire These are a few PP slides that can be added to any History lesson to keep the exam topic fresh in pupil’s minds after you have taught the unit. This starter gets pupils to revise and practise answers to: Describe the Reichstag Fire; Explain how the enabling Act helped Hitler to consolidate his power

Inform Explain Describe Travel Writing Lesson PP. This is a full lesson PP on travel writing that uses the Capelo acrynym to teach pupils how to write their own article - tied into KS3 APP framework with AFs but can easily be adapted to KS4 for exam.

Full lesson pp that explores the topic of GCSE Citizenship Law and Order

This is a mini scheme of work for KS4 English students in which they prepare their own individual contribution about what they would put into room 101. The lessons go through the context of room 101 and then how to structure their speech.

These are two lessons that are tied to the AQA specification for English Lit and the Relationship cluster - quite basic but a starting point for how to attempt questions. They don't have to be taught together.

This is one of several resources that I have uploaded that relate to Haig and whether or not he was incompetent. For ease of locating, the title stem is the same: ' Was Haig Incompetent?, should you wish to use them together - These are from my PGCE year, so will need to be adapted and updated but I am confiedent that they're a starting point for some. This resource is a lesson that gets pupils to use sources effectively to support their ideas.
