4 MYP 2 Mathematics Detailed Unit Planners

4 Resources
The Mathematical Vision unit plan This is ideal for students relating mathematics and interacting with the world around them. This unit engages students with trigonometry, exponentials (powers), ratios, and spatial awareness. The Art of Mathematics unit plan is ideal for students relating mathematics and geometry. This unit engages students with shapes, lines, rotations, geometric concepts, dance, and art. The Problem with Money unit plan is ideal for students relating mathematics and various aspects of money. This unit engages students with fractions, decimals, percentages, flowcharts, univariate and bivariate data, graphs, and pie charts. The Unlikely Life unit plan is ideal for students relating mathematics and probabilities. This unit engages students with probabilities, tree diagrams, fractions, food webs, and venn diagrams. These four unit plans each contain many, many links and ideas that keep learning engaging and fun during the weeks that they are running. They are brain-child of months of work to make fully fleshed out mathematics units that integrate other areas of study, but are also truly in keeping to focus on the mathematics and help the students learn in an enjoyable way. All four of these units are focussed on MYP 2, but could apply to either MYP 1 or 3 easily and be used for that purpose. Unlikely Life - MYP unit plan (highly detailed)

This is an IB MYP - Unlikely Life - which is ideal for students relating mathematics and probabilities. This unit engages students with probabilities, tree diagrams, fractions, food webs, venn diagrams and a great deal more in a broad conceptual understanding. It contains many, many resource links suggested for this unit and makes clear a set of points that students should know, understand and be able to do by the end of the unit. It also has some clear and interactive formative assessments and summative assessments. This unit is heavily detailed and ideal for something that is truly prepared to use in the classroom. It is an overview for a unit that should run for approximately 7 weeks (assuming 3 lessons a week). If instead you are looking for an MYP unit planner also for mathematics, but based on measurement and related concepts, then consider the mathematical vision unit plan or for geometry and artworks, try the Art of Mathematics unit plan or finally for fractions, decimals and percentages and lots of other mathematics, try the Problem with Money unit plan. For science and young students in MYP and which would be an ideal first unit, then consider: Nature of Science - introductory unit plan. For around the same age group, but in science - for MYP 2 / 3 an alternative IB MPY unit planner would be: the Food and Energy unit planner or the Growth unit planner. If rather for younger students you want to integrate both mathematics and STEM, then you might consider: MYP Artifical limb unit. For older MYP students, then I would suggest The NGSS related - Zero impact (sustainable housing) or for an Interdisciplinary unit - the Electricity / lightning MYP STEM IDU. Minute physics Video companions

Simply, set and relax as these video companions will help make sure your students are paying attention throughout these videos, having a variety of questions throughout the length of the video. I have laboured long and hard to make these video companions as easy as possible to engage with and to be able to use for teachers of any kind, whether in school, higher education or home schooling, these can be great to keep students engaged and know they watched the material fully. The video companions include: The Higgs Boson, Part I What if the Earth were Hollow? Why is it Dark at Night? Common Physics Misconceptions Is it Better to Walk or Run in the Rain? How Big is the Universe? MAGNETS: How do they work? What is Sea Level? Why is the Solar System Flat? How Modern Light Bulbs Work How to See Without Glasses Antimatter Explained This is Not a Rainbow How to Subtract By Adding How Long To Fall Through The Earth? Hitting the Sun is HARD Why It’s Impossible to Tune a Piano Will Batteries Power The World? | The Limits Of Lithium-ion The Unreasonable Efficiency of Black Holes The Brown Dwarf Debate Why Do Compressed Air Cans Get Cold? Our Ignorance About Gravity Einstein’s Biggest Blunder, Explained The Physics of Windmill Design Other links: If you enjoy these, then you might also enjoy the Veritasium video companions, the full set. I highly recommend this resource as it has been my pride and joy to develop for your use. Usage: The layout of these video companions are that there are both teacher and student versions of all of these documents. The teacher versions contain the solutions and the administrative information. The student versions contain only the questions and spaces for students to fill in the work. They are easy to use and all in PDF form, including one large ‘master file’ so you can see all the content in one broad sweep and see what video companion will work for you and your students easily. Revision game - Snakes and Ladders

Revision game - Snakes and Ladders

(0)
A Classic revision game - Snakes and Ladders. This version contains some example multiple choices questions from the IGCSE Physics course, however to get the maximum benefit from this game, it would be best if the teacher already had a set of multiple choice questions complete with answers. Used together with a set of multiple choice questions, this game makes a fun and interactive way to review multiple choice style questions. MYP STEM by concept and criteria / 90 STEM topics

(0)
This product is the culmination of a huge amount of work and is my ultimate work in attempting to link MYP and STEM education at a clear and teacher friendly level. This document links MYP STEM by concept and criteria and 90 STEM topics which has career related links. It covers MYP Science, Mathematics and Design thinking. Providing over 90 STEM topic primers with practical advice to get you going on your MYP STEM journey. The career related links are a huge plus, so when students ask why they might be interested in learning this STEM topic, you will be able to say well with this learning you could be… an astronaut, a radiotherapist, a builder, an artist or a professional hacker.
