Maths in Sport - World Record Progression

(1)
Pupils plot graphs of the world records in some events over the last century. They try to explain differences in their graphs and why they take the shape they do. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!

Maths in Sport - Average Speeds

(4)
Pupils use Maths to calculate the average speed of runners in various Olympic races and plot a graph of their results. They then try to explain the data by interpreting their graphs. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Secret Agent Loci

Secret Agent Loci

(18)
Pupils imagine they are a secret agent. They have to get across each map without being detected by guards or security cameras. To do this they construct Loci to show which areas are safe and which aren't. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! IMPORTANT NOTE: When the pupils start the task, say that the task is to show the areas which are UNSAFE. If you say they need to find a safe route through, they will all just estimate it without using the Loci!

17 Equations that Changed the World

Having read Ian Stewart's book of the same name, I decided to make A4 sized posters summarising each of the equations. They're nice to have up on the walls when kids say 'What's the point of Algebra?' If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!

Probability Investigation

(10)
Another lesson based on a worksheet I saw. Pupils investigate how many ways a coin can reach a certain destination according to a rule, then find the pattern of Pascal's Triangle. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Planning Flights

Planning Flights

(27)
This is based on something I saw on the TES a while ago, but I couldn't find it again! The pupils have to plan flights on various continents using Bearings to work out the direction of travel, and Speed, Distance and Time calculations. There is a worksheet with choices of continents as well as a sheet of estimated answers! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Who wins the Heptathlon?

Who wins the Heptathlon?

(7)
Lesson on the official formulae used to calculate the amount of points athletes get for different events of the Heptathlon. An important part is the discussion afterwards as to whether the scoring system is fair or not (an article is linked in the powerpoint) If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
The Diagonal Problem

The Diagonal Problem

(2)
Tiles are put together to make a larger rectangle. The question is: If we draw a diagonal from one corner to the other, how many tiles will it cross? The pupils should investigate and see if they can find a rule. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
