In this anti-fairytale, a widow has two daughters. The older daughter, Fanny, resembles her mother and is favored despite being disagreeable. The younger daughter is kind and beautiful like her late father. The younger girl helps a disguised fairy and is blessed with jewels and flowers falling from her mouth when she speaks. The widow wants the same for Fanny, but Fanny insults the fairy and is cursed, causing toads and snakes to fall from her mouth.
