In this lesson, students will be able to analyse the various propaganda techniques which were used in World War One propaganda posters which aimed to enlist more men into the armed forces. Students will be given a selection of posters to analyse and then have an opportunity to design and explain their own, original, propaganda poster. Students will study the actions of each and explain why their actions limited the efforts of the Metropolitan Police to catch Jack the Ripper. This lesson asks the students to study the Berlin Refugee Crisis and link it to Khrushchev’s Berlin Ultimatum of 1958. STARTER: Students recap the differences between East Germany and West Germany by organising a mixed up set of facts into a table. RECAP: A filling in the missing term task to help students recap their knowledge of the Berlin Blockade. the Berlin Airlift and the official division of Berlin into East and West. BACKGROUND: An animated ad easy to follow narrative of the key events of the Berlin Ultimatum with clear maps of Germany and Berlin, photographs and key terms (see image).
