39 Slide PowerPoint Presentation on sound and the practical tasks children can undertake.
The Teacher’s Note sets out how you can introduce the topic and suggestions on how to organize the activities and list resources needed.
You can organize a carousel system (different workstations) - so each table deals with a different aspect on sound or you can do a whole class lesson on one aspect of sound week by week, ending the term on a sound carousel for assessment.

Vibration involving moving objects- e.g. children can experiment with a tuning forks and water and ping-pong balls, rice on drums.
Sound and Pitch - e.g. use empty bottles filled with different levels of liquid to produce different pitches and also blow horizontally along the edge to produce sounds similar to wind instruments; and/or experiment with guitar strings –shortening and lengthening the string to produce different sounds;
Listening devices - experiment with different string telephones by changing variables such as type of string and material of cups;
Blocking Out Sound activities- Children can make ear defenders out of margarine tubs packed with different materials or they can wrap the sound source like a buzzer or alarm clock with different materials to see which is best at muffling the sound.
Optional - Musical Instruments - Children can make musical instruments or use the ones they may have made in previous lessons - to adjust how they use it or even make it better - can experiment with various aspects of sound.
Outside activity - How sound gets fainter as you travel further away - Use a sound source like a buzzer.

This resource relates to counting 2D shapes of different colours.
It is a 3-in-1 product that covers the early learning of colours, shapes and basic counting up to 10.
Each page contains the same shapes but they are different colours.
An ideal resource for children to practise colour recognition, 2D shapes and counting.
Ideally, each sheet should be laminated and used with a dry-erase pen.
Children count the shapes that are the same colour and then write the number in the space provided.
Shapes used are: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, diamond/rhombus and pentagon.
<strong>Extension opportunity:</strong> Some children can count beyond 10 and even 20 in Reception and Year 1, so once they have written down the number of shapes that are the same colours, they can then add the two numbers together to find the total number of, e.g., squares.

30 Slide Presentation which includes whole class activities - it describes what people do in the lead up to Christmas, the meaning of Advent and children are asked what they do in preparation for an event, e.g. if it their birthday, what do they do to prepare for the big day. Children are encouraged to interact with the presentation. There is a review at the end.

Word Search with solution plus associated tasks
Worksheets 1 and 2: Children list an activity in each of the baubles. Children who need support can draw pictures to go with their list. The more able children describe their list in more detail using complete sentences and then draw a picture.
Worksheet 3: For able writers – You may wish to give this work to more able writers to write about what people do during Advent and/or write how they prepare for Christmas.
Early Finishers:
Worksheet 4 with Answer Key: For this activity children only tick the pictures that relate to Advent. The second part of the worksheet is for children to complete each of the four sentences in their own words but using the verbs in the box.
Word Search: Children can work in twos to find the words in the grid. When the word search is completed there is a ready-made worksheet for the children to put the words in the word search grid into alphabetical order.
