This is a standalone activity I do in ICT to help chidlren learn how to create tables tables in Microsoft Word, select cells and shade cells with different colours. The children could even add text to a cell as part of the art or merge cells. In this document are four ready made examples of what sort of table/pixel art they could create whilst mastering these skills. You could provide them as examples or even provide the table outline as a template for the children to work on, although if they’re able to, it’s better to have them create their own table.

This fun activity lets children explore that classic deserted island scenario. It presents pictures of 16 items from which the children have to choose three to take with them to be stranded with. They must explain verbally or in writing why they have chosen these items. The children could even suggest why other items would not be worth having. It’s worth encouraging the children to think of alternate uses for the items they have chosen too. This works both as an individual activity and as a group activity to promote effective communication between members.

This pack comprises of six short airport role-play conversations. We use it to add an element of drama and fun to our connected learning topic, Flying High. Most of the role-plays are quite funny in some way but include common language to each situation. The number of children involved in each varies from 2-4 people. This sheet is by the children to estimate and then record the content of various drinks after researching or provided with the data. The build-up for this process leads to those classic displays showing each drink container with the bag of sugar underneath to demonstrate the sheer amount in a drink or the lack of. The project is great because it covers all sorts of maths, health and science curriculum objectives and ultimately (hopefully) makes children reconsider what they drink or at least how much they drink of it. *The document contains two tables on each A4 page for saving paper. We study the Storm Unicorn by Pie Corbett during literacy. Leading up to this we look at other examples before the children write their own (non-chronological) report with the aid of the text. This is a re-write of the Storm Unicorn called the Candy Unicorn. Sub-titles have been added in as we encourage the use of them for better organisation. There is also another report by Pie Corbett called the Frost Unicorn which we use in addition to this as another example report text. This worksheet involves questions that relate to the text of Pie Corbett’s Storm Unicorn. The questions cover basic recall and then move onto more advanced comprehension skills such as inference. The final section leaves a space for the children to attempt to draw the Storm Unicorn based on the details of the report. It encourages children to think flexibly and relates the plight of the unicorn with that of rhino’s. It also opens up a wealth of discussion surrounding that point too. I usually use this after the children have read, mapped and analysed the report in detail first. I used this when I was teaching all about Brazil in a standalone topic. We thought it would be good for the children to get a basic grasp of the main language, Portuguese. For that I created three conversational scripts between different numbers of people. The phrases are very basic. I originally made up the conversations to go with a video about basic Portuguese Phrases from Youtube. It worked great at the time but I haven’t taught the topic again, as we rotate countries of study each year. This worksheet comprises two parts. The first is a fill in the blanks section where ideally the children test objects using a light source and fill in with the help of the words from the table. The second part can also involve some testing done throughout the day or could be done after the fact. It involves drawing where the sun would be at different times of the day and then drawing an object and its corresponding shadow. Children learn about the ways that a shadow can be affected and how and relate it to the shadows of objects caused by everyday objects blocking light from the sun. As an extra fun activity, have the children draw around their own shadows at different points during the day. In teaching the topic of sound and look at vibrations and how sound travels, the children perform this practical. It involves making the paper-cup phones by following the instructions and writing it up using the scientific method. The equipment and method are done already but the children are expected to select their own hypothesis and write up a short analysis and conclusion.

This worksheet entails children finding objects in the classroom to first fit a certain length range - Less than, more than and between lengths. Second, it asks that children find other objects and record and measure the exact length using a ruler or tape measure. It also has a column where they can estimate or predict the length of the object. I usually use it as an follow up to an introduction to length, measuring and measuring tools. It’s perfect for teaching about the phrases; less than, greater, than, equal to as well as how to estimate and to measure length using various tools.
