New Spec Sociology Knowledge Organiser- Research Methods

(0)
A knowledge organiser prepared for the AQA New Spec, but can suit any . Whilst we know Studying Society no longer exists as a separate topic, we have opted to teach a mini research methods unit (soon to be uploaded) after the introduction. This means students have an awareness of the methods and can then feed it into the other units. This is the knowledge organiser for the mini unit. If you download please leave a review.

Research Methods (9-1) Pilot Study & Sampling (2/11)

This is a mini research unit that will be taught ahead of the units (after the introduction unit). It should take approximately 11 lessons to go through the basic research methods. I am aware this is no longer necessary to be taught as an explicit unit, however we feel they need the basic knowledge to be able to answer the questions in the different units. Lesson 2 looks at what a pilot study is and encourages students to pilot a questionnaire. There is a gap filler task for the sampling techniques and 3 exam questions with model answers. Please review if you purchase

The homework task refers to a knowledge organiser than can be bought in my store. However, the homework task can be completed without it. It’s just our departmental push on the use of them throughout the unit. Lesson 3- Looking at Primary, Secondary, Qual & Quan data. Considering how studies are peer reviewed and evaluated. Exam practice with model answer. Homework Task also prepared.

Research Methods (9-1) Interviews (5 & 6/11)

2 Lessons on different types of interview (structured, in-depth and group). Looking at 3 examples, followed by design challenge, exam practice and WAGOLL in lesson 1. Lesson 1 may take longer than one hour, particuarly if you use a full length episode to support them. Lesson 2 looks at group interviews with a summary worksheet and a further exam question and WAGOLL.

9-1 Learning Journey Overview WHOLE COURSE

Attached are the learning journeys for the AQA Sociology GCSE whole course. I was asked to create these by a customer who had downloaded some of my lessons and wanted to use them for the whole course. These are printed and stuck into the students books at the start of each topic. You can edit and tweak these to suit your own course. They are great, not only at the start of the topic area, but provide students with a revision checklist. Students can cross out/highlight lesson areas when they have revised them. I will eventually add all of the units to accompany these learning journeys. Introduction to sociology, education and social stratification can be found in my shop. Introduction to Sociology Research Methods (mini unit) Paper 1- Families Paper 1- Education Paper 2- Social Stratification Paper 2- Crime & Deviance

New Spec Sociology Knowledge Organiser- Families

Planned for AQA new spec (9-1) but suitable for most exam boards. This is a knowledge organiser that contains key thinkers, and a summary of the unit. It is a good revision tool, but students will obviously need to go into further detail on each of the key thinkers etc. Please leave a review if you download.

AQA Social Stratification- The Welfare State (11/15)

(0)
Planned for 9-1 AQA specification. This lesson can take 2 hours (double lesson) if you watch the documentary. Students complete an information sheet on what the Welfare State introduced after the war. They then look at New Right, Centre-Left, Marxist and Feminist perspectives on welfare. There are some extension questions for those who complete this. There is then a documentary about the benefits cap. The idea is to offer this as a possible solution, but for students to think about the implications of this. This documentary is not essential for the course, but it is a nice way for students to think about alternatives to the welfare state, or to consider if the welfare state is a worthwhile investment with taxation.

Students use their own book notes to complete an A3 worksheet, but a help sheet is provided if students have missed lessons and require some support. A selection of 12 mark questions are used if students complete. Ideal as a cover lesson, homework task, consolidation lesson before assessment or revision for Y11 before their exam.
